Two reasons. There is nothing to confirm — no email to wait for, which is where a lot of old sign-ups got stuck — and Discord is where support already happens, so a ticket and a reply reach you in the same place. It is the quicker door, not the only one: an old forum username or email with its password still signs in, and always will.
Signing in with Discord does not link anything by itself. If you have an old account, you attach it afterwards by proving its password once; Discord’s email is never used to guess.

No problem. Had a forum account? Use the form: your username or email, whichever you remember, and your password — it signs you in here and signs the app in, exactly as before. New here? Create an account with a username, email and password; we send one email to confirm the address. The free trial is the one thing that still needs Discord, because it is one trial per Discord account.

First, what the page is telling you. “That sign-in did not match” is the same reply for a wrong username and a wrong password, on purpose — and it means exactly that: nothing has been locked, and nothing here ever is. “Too many sign-in attempts from this connection” is a limit on your network’s attempts, not on your account, and it says when it clears.
Worth checking: the old site took the username or the email, so try the other; a password manager may be filling an older entry. If you cannot remember it, Forgot your password? sends a link to set a new one to the email on your account. Old forum accounts with no email on file: sign in with Discord and ask me from inside — a person can attach the old account after checking it is yours. The app is separate: it signs in with the licence key, or with the old username and password.

Not if you had a forum account: nobody is asked to re-register. Your old username or email and password sign in here and sign the app in, and will keep doing so. New here? Either sign in with Discord, or create an account with a username, email and password — both work for everything except the free trial, which needs Discord.
